Scheduling Fee: $150 for the Combined Core Test (Reading, Writing, and Mathematics). $90 for each of these 3 Core subjects.
Duration: 5 hours for the Combined Core Test.
What to Bring:
- Admission ticket
- A government-issued ID (see examples below) that is valid (not expired), original (not a copy), and legible. It should include:
- A recent, recognizable photo
- Your name in the Roman alphabet, spelled exactly as you provided when you registered
- Your signature
- Your date of birth as you provided at registration
- Acceptable IDs include a driver’s license, government-issued ID, military ID, permanent resident/green card, or passport.
- Personal items such as cell phones or other electronic devices are not allowed in the test center. Watches are not allowed in the testing room. You will be assigned a locker to place items such as watches and handbags.
- Food and drink are not permitted in the testing room. Some test centers have storage areas or lockers where you may store personal items such as food, drink, handbags and study materials. However, not all do.
Computer adaptive: Yes. Praxis Core adjusts difficulty from question to question. If you are doing well, it will give you harder questions. And if you’re not doing so well, it will give you easier questions.
4 Sections:
- Reading: 85 minutes
- 56 multiple-choice questions
- Writing: 100 minutes
- 2 sections: Multiple-choice and Essay
- Multiple choice: 40 questions in 40 minutes
- Questions address the importance of research strategies and assess strategies for revising and improving text
- Essay: 2 essays in 60 minutes
- 1 Essay on Argumentative Writing
- 1 Essay on Informative/Explanatory Writing
- Math: 85 minutes
- 56 questions
- Question Types: Numeric entry, multiple choice
Scoring Range: Scaled score of 100-200 for each of the 3 sections. Scores are calculated by converting a raw number of correct questions to a scaled score that is based on the performance of all test-takers taking that particular Praxis test.
- The passing score for Core Academic Math is 150 in almost all states. Washington is the exception at 142.
- The passing score for Core Academic Reading Skills is 156 for almost all states.
- The passing score for Core Academic Writing Skills is 162 for almost all states.
Own Calculator Allowed? No. On-screen calculator will be provided for the Mathematics section.
Sending Scores: When you are registering for Praxis Core, you can select up to 4 institutions you’d like to send your scores to. After your exam, if you wish to send your scores to additional institutions, there is a $50 fee per institution. You can order additional Score Reports by clicking here!
Canceling Fees:
- If you cancel more than 3 full days before your scheduled Praxis Core exam, you will receive 50% of your test fees as a refund.
- If you cancel within 3 full days before your scheduled Praxis Core exam, you will receive no refund.
Rescheduling Fees:
- If you reschedule more than 3 full days before your scheduled Praxis Core exam, you will be charged a $40 fee.
- If you reschedule less than 3 full days before your scheduled Praxis Core exam, you will have to pay the full test fee again.
